This EP was an introduction for many to the atmospheric Doom/Death genre which was in its infancy at the time, blooming particularly in the UK, and spearheaded by fellow Yorkshiremen, Paradise Lost. Utilising an effective mix of Celtic Frost and Candlemass among others, My Dying Bride instilled an immense atmosphere of foreboding and dread in its music with a concoction of brooding riffs and lyrical themes of sex and death with religious overtones. The implementation of violin, an unusual addition at the time, heightened MDB's sense of atmosphere, and helped distinguish the band further from its peers.

This is the first vinyl pressing of the EP since 1991, and now includes the tracks God is Alone and De Sade Soliloquy.
